Facebook Gaming unveils tools for streamers to fight online trolls

Cutting corners: Watching streamers can be fun except when internet trolls try to disrupt the fun. Facebook is trying to give video creators more power to enforce community standards to make watching a little more bearable for most people. Tools include the ability set up rules ahead of time that viewers must accept before posting. Violators can be muted or banned while given notice as to why they were banned.

Those who have spent any time in Twitch streams or even YouTube comments know how toxic some communities can be. Facebook is hoping to

NFL Films used simple multimedia tech to recreate the first Super Bowl broadcast

We can rebuild it: Video editing technology has advanced to the point that even a novice editor can piece together a production of professional quality. The National Football League did just that to resurrect Super Bowl I, but why didn’t it just pull the full broadcast out of the archives?

The first Super Bowl, known as the AFL-NFL Championship at the time, took place in 1967 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers. The game was shown on two networks. American Football

Microsoft Edge will let you automatically block 'potentially unwanted app' downloads

In context: Nobody likes unwanted programs on their system, even if they aren't necessarily harmful. Regardless, many websites still try to push users to download this not-technically-dangerous "adware" in addition to (or, in some cases, in place of) the software they were originally looking for. Fortunately, there may be some relief in sight for Microsoft Edge users.

Microsoft is currently developing a feature for its new Chromium-based Edge browser that, when enabled, will automatically block "potentially

The EU is moving ahead with push for a common charging standard after decisive vote

Recap: The EU is forging ahead with a decisive vote on regulation that will push manufacturers to adopt a common standard for wired and wireless chargers. Earlier this month, news broke that EU regulators were drafting new legislation that would push all mobile device manufacturers towards a single charging standard. Among the reasons invoked is the well-documented problem of electronic waste, which can at least in part be attributed to the multitude of charger types.

This move invited a prompt response from Apple, who was arguably less than pleased about the

Iowa drops charges against security pros arrested for courthouse penetration testing

In context: Security professionals, particularly penetration experts, have a pretty tough job. Government organizations and corporations will hire these individuals to look for physical vulnerabilities and security loopholes in their operations. Much like the disclosure of serious software flaws, the end goal of this process is to improve security overall. To perform this task, security pros often need to think like a savvy criminal, which is easier said than done.

However, in November of last year, two employees working for security company Coalfire might have done their job

Disney's animatronic Spider-Man will swing over Disneyland crowds this summer

Looking back: I still remember my first trip to Disneyland as a child. There were so many Amazing things that made you wonder, "How did they do that?" The animatronics were particularly awe-inspiring for a 7-year-old, but on subsequent visits, they seemed — well, robotic. If early testing is anything to go by, the park's newest automaton puts the rest to shame.

Disney engineers (aka Imagineers) have developed an animatronic Spider-Man that will be flying over
