Coronavirus Has Silicon Valley Companies Telling Employees to Work From Home

The list of tech companies advising their employees to work from home because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak just keeps getting longer and longer.

Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook advised workers in the Seattle area to work from home last week as COVID-19 spread throughout Washington. In the time since, companies in Silicon Valley have told their workers to stay home as well, and it wouldn't be surprising if tech companies in New York followed suit

Nvidia Could Possibly Tap Into TSMC's CoWoS Packaging For Next-Generation GPUs

According to a new DigiTimes report , Nvidia will be among one of the three major clients that will leverage TSMC's CoWoS packaging this year, with the other two being Xilinx and HiSilicon.

CoWoS (Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate) is a 2.5D packaging technology that integrates multiple chiplets onto a single interposer. The list of primary benefits includes a much smaller footprint, increase in bandwidth and reduction in power consumption.

2K Games Ditches Nvidia's GeForce Now

Nvidia might have to rebrand GeForce Now as GeForce Later, because the company said Friday that 2K Games asked to have its titles removed from the streaming platform, making it the latest addition to the list of publishers avoiding the service.

GeForce Now officially exited beta on February 4. Nvidia said it supported over 1,000 titles at launch, but it didn't take long for publishers to pull their games from the service. The following companies have had their titles removed

As reported by respected chip analysis site WikiChip , IBM has detailed its latest z15 mainframe at the recent ISSCC conference. It has double the eDRAM cache density of its predecessor, despite being manufactured on the same process node. The z15 packs almost 1GB of L4 cache using a high-density eDRAM cell.

Chinese Fab SMIC to Start 7nm Production in the Fourth Quarter: Report

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), China's largest foundry, has scheduled initial 7nm production for the fourth quarter of this year, according to kkj.cn and reported by CNTechPost . Density is more than doubled compared to 14nm, which started production late last year.

Dr. Liang Mengsong, co-CEO of SMIC, reportedly said that 7nm, as successor to its 14nm process, improves performance by 20% and reduces power consumption by 5
