Intel to Reduce Gen7 Performance Hit With Final Version of Graphics Driver Security Fix

Intel on Tuesday announced a flaw in its graphics driver affecting GPU generations 3 to 10.  When Phoronix benchmarked the patched driver, devices using Gen7 graphics saw a significant iGPU performance drop. But Intel said that the final version of the patch should eliminate most of that performance loss, the publication reported today.

AMD has allegedly pushed out a new vBIOS to all its graphics cards partners to raise the performance on the its looming Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card, Chinese news outlet HKEPC reported today. The move would likely be a response to Nvidia slashing the RTX 2060's price from $349 down to $299.

PS5 and Xbox Series X Specs Point to Higher Demand for SSDs, GDDR6 in 2020

A report from research firm DRAMeXchange this week said that the arrival of the next Xbox and PlayStation consoles will lead to a "surge" in demand for SSDs and graphics DRAM , namely GDDR6, in the second half of 2020. To which extent this surge will affect consumer prices is unclear, but we do know that prices for both DRAM and NAND are already expected to rise in 2020.

In the Midst of Stadia, Google is Working on Steam for Chromebooks

Up until now, the best way to use Steam on a Chromebook would be to run Linux. It doesn't really work all that well through Crostini, though, but it appears that Google is working on getting Steam supported on Chrome OS.

The news comes courtesy of Android Police , who had an interview with Kan Liu, the Director of Product Management for Chome OS.

AOC Goes QHD With New 27-Inch 144Hz Gaming Monitors

AOC is lauching two new gaming monitors : the Q27G2U and its curved twin, as spotted by Hardware.info .

These are 27-inch VA panels with 2560 x 1440 resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. Using AMD FreeSync , the refresh rate's range will go down to 48 Hz. Peak brightness is noted to be 250 nits, and there is no HDR support.
