Scientists 3D print tumors for cancer research — TissueTinker using 3D bioprinting to create miniature models of healthy and diseased tissue for side-by-side comparison, backed by McGill

(Image credit: Getty / Thom Leach)

There seems to be no limit to what we can do with 3D printing. Just last week, we reported on Chinese scientists 3D printing organ tissue for transplanting into burn victims. Today, we're sharing an amazing 3D printed innovation in cancer research that comes from Tissue Tinker, a company spinoff from McGill University. The company has put together a team that has managed to 3D print tumors for cancer research.

TissueTinker was promoted by the McGill Innovation Fund

MIT team creates chip-based 3D printer the size of a coin, cures resin using only light — handheld 3D printing tech enabled by silicon photonics

3D printing and silicon photonics have combined in a rather exciting way this week. Researchers at MIT have engineered a novel 3D printing design on a single computer chip, officially the world's first chip-based 3D printer. The chip emits beams of light into a well of resin to fabricate designs, and will be iterated on to create a fully volumetric 3D printer on a chip.

The printer employs no moving parts, using a series of nanometer-scale antennas to

Hong Kong scientists 3D printing organs for transplant patients — 3D-printed respiratory tissue combined with lab-grown mini organs in new procedure

We've seen 3D printers that can print some strange materials—one of our favorites being a chocolate 3D printer. That said, we have never come across one that can 3D print organs. At least, not until today, when we discovered that scientists from the University of Hong Kong in China are experimenting with technology to 3D print functional organ tissue .

SCMP shared a post detailing the ins and outs of the development, featuring Professor Michael Chan from the team
