First WILD Sony A6900 rumored specs: 33MP sensor and 30fps

It’s a bit of a boring time and therefore I am sharing this info I got from a new source. So take it with a grain of salt and let me know if you actually hope the info is true:

The test samples of new APS-C camera, tentatively named the α6900, is scheduled for release after April 2026 (FY2026).
It’s a new-generation standard APS-C design, a bit thicker than the A6700 for better grip, and it’s got two extra customisable buttons: C1 and C3 and uses a brand-new 33-megapixel Chip-on-Wafer stacked sensor with up to 15+ stops of dynamic range.

It’s got the BIONZ XR2 processor, which supports 30fps Electronic Shutter (ES) continuous shooting and 15fps Mechanical Shutter (MS) continuous shooting.

The new mechanical shutter uses the same silent, compact drive mechanism as the full-frame α1 .
So, the α6900 supports only electronic front-curtain shutter and electronic shutter modes, while increasing the maximum exposure speed to 1/16000 second.
The α6900 is limited by its relatively low buffer capacity for continuous shooting.

The space saved means the α6900 can deliver 8.5 stops of image stabilisation, and its sole card slot can accommodate CF Express Type-A cards.
Video recording is still limited to FHD and 4K formats, including 7K oversampled 4K60p without cropping, as well as 1.3x crop oversampled 4K120p.

My take on this:

A (partially?) stacked 33-MP sensor makes perfect sense when you have to compete with the 40-MP sensor used in Fujifilm cameras. We really need this upgrade from the A6700’s 26-MP resolution, and we need the additional dynamic range that a stacked sensor can offer.

30/15fps is amazing but sounds like you will run out of buffer very fast :(

I am a bit surprised to see the SD card gone in favor of the Type A slot. The good news is that Type A cards have become a lot more affordable in the past years (see them here at Amazon and BHphoto )

What do you think about these specs? You hope they are true or you wish the source to be wrong on this?
