This is an exclusive report from SAR. While everyone else was convinced that a new FX3 II was on the way, I can now confirm through trusted sources that Sony will announce a new Sony FX5 in July!

I’ll dig into why this represents a major shift for Sony’s cinema lineup in a separate article soon. What is this Sony FX5:

1. It’s a substantial upgrade over the FX3. It gets a new name because it’s more like a compact Venice camera than an Alpha camera with Cine features!
2. It’s slightly bigger than the FX3 and very close to the size of this Canon camera
3. It features a brand newly developed GLOBAL SHUTTER sensor. More advanced than the one we see on this Sony Alpha model
4. It has new features unseen on the FX2/FX3 yet. And also some features users “requested” ;)
5. Button and Menu layout take over many aspects of the professional Venice camera
6. Price unkown, shipment date unkown but announcement is happening in July for sure

A possible second camera surprise: First a warning, I am 100% sure a new FX camera is coming in July…but I am uncertain about this rumor of a new compact camera. it’s ocming via news source. They claim Sony will also announce a fixed lens camera that will be the official successor of this model .

Maybe a new lens too: We might finally get the 16-28mm f/2.0 GM too?
