Tamron Japan made it official. In a press release they stated:
Yesterday, there were some media reports in Diamond Online stating that there had been an acquisition proposal made regarding our company, but this was not announced by us.
It is true that we have received a non-binding proposal from Sony Corporation regarding a series of transactions to make our company a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Group, and that in response, we have established a special committee and are considering various options to enhance corporate value; however, there are no matters that should be made public at this time.
Should any matters requiring disclosure arise in the future, we will promptly make an announcement.
To Reuters a Sony spokesperson said the entertainment and technology conglomerate believes the proposal will enhance Tamron’s corporate value and the interests of its stakeholders, and contribute to the development of Sony’s imaging business.
Tamron shares were indicated 26% higher Thursday in Tokyo as buy orders overwhelmed sell orders at their daily limit high level. But we have to see if this is really going to happen…
