CineD had an interesting chat with Ryoji Yamada-san, product planner of the new Sony FX5. I will only highlight the more “rumor” or future oriented titbits:

Sony Cinema Line: Future Product Hints & Strategy

• 16-bit X-OCN C1/C2 Codec Expansion:
  Sony is considering bringing its lightweight, compact 16-bit X-OCN compressed RAW codecs to additional cameras in the lineup if there is sufficient creator demand.
• Sony FX5 Firmware Version 2.0 Roadmap:
  • Release Window: Scheduled for August 2027 or later following extensive testing.
  • Still / Frame Grab Capabilities: Version 2.0 will introduce a dedicated still-capture/frame-grab feature designed specifically for cinematographers using the Venice-style menu system.
• Anamorphic Mode Enhancements:
  Following direct feedback from filmmakers, Sony is evaluating updates to enable In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) and Autofocus support while shooting in anamorphic modes.
• Extended Product Lifespans via Firmware:
  Sony reaffirmed its commitment to keeping current models (like the FX3) active alongside newer models by releasing continuous, value-adding software updates.
• New Camera Naming System:
  As single-digit designations in the FX series fill up, Sony is developing a new naming or numbering scheme for upcoming Cinema Line models.
• Larger Sensor Formats for the Mass Market:
  Sony is exploring ways to bring larger-format sensors to broader market segments, taking into consideration sensor development and the supporting lens ecosystem.

In a not so distant future we might see that new Rialto 65mm medium format sensor on more affordable Cine cameras…and what about a new Alpha medium format model? I want that too :)
