Exclusive Leak: Sony A7V Ditches HDMI port for Dual USB-C!

A newly leaked image shows the Sony A7V has dropped the HDMI port in favor of a second USB-C connection. This is going to be a very controversial move! You can do almost everything through USB-C nowadays but there are still a few points in favor of HDMI if the Sony A7V would use the usual 3.2 standard:

  • External monitors & recorders: HDMI can send uncompressed 10-bit or 16-bit RAW video to recorders like Atomos .
  • Latency: HDMI has lower lag than USB video transfer — better for professional monitoring.
  • Compatibility: Most professional monitors, switchers, and broadcast setups are built around HDMI/SDI, not USB-C.

Unless the Sony A7V ends up supporting Thunderbolt 5, latency and data transfer would match HDMI performance. But let’s be honest — it’s highly unlikely Sony will include the latest USB standard in this new camera.

What do you think about this surprising move from Sony?
