Trump exempts some electronic devices from tariffs… but not cameras and lenses

Trump has exempted some electronic devices from the new tariffs. But as far as I understand, this does NOT include cameras and lenses. If this is the case, you will soon see price increases for new cameras, lenses and accessories. For products produced in China we will see a 145% tariff rate while on the rest we have a 10% tariff in place. So if you live in the USA and need some gear I would buy it now!

Sharpness is excellent for long distance but results are a bit disappointing at portrait distance with only good results wide open for portraits
Background blur is very soft, colors and contrast are very good, Bokeh balls are excellent. Resistance to flare is good and distortion very small. CA and Vignetting are quite significant

First tariff effects? BH removed the Sony 400-800mm preorder option and Adorama says it’s shipping out in June only

This is rather unusual, but the pre-order option for the Sony 400-800mm has been removed from BHphoto and Adorama says it won’t ship until June. I’m really not sure if this has to do with the current rate situation or if there is a sudden unexpected demand for this lens.

One more thing: SonyAlphaBlog just published the full review of this lens.

This crappy camera could be the future of photography

It’s no secret that I would be delighted if Sony were to open up its operating system to third-party applications. I could trigger a viral and important boost for usability and creativity. Imagine if apps like Instagram, Youtube, movie simulations and Google Backup were integrated directly into your menu. Overall, I think camera manufacturers should “speak the language” of the younger generation who demand instant usability and connectivity.

I don’t know if running Android would be a way to respond to those demands. There
