Sony wins multiple Tipa Awards….but there’s a catch

The Tipa association announced the 2025 winners. But keep in mind that these awards have a bad reputation.TIPA does receive money from companies—especially through logo licensing fees—and while it claims editorial independence, many in the photo community treat its awards with a grain of salt.

That’s why they create as many categories as possible to sell their fees to manufacturers :(

More tariff craziness: Amazon US avoids tariffs and offers some Sony lenses through Amazon EU shops to avoid duties?

Amazon has completely removed the pre-order option for the new Sony 400-800mm G lens . And there is also a strange circumvention of customs duties from Chinese manufactured lenses: For some lenses like the Sony 135mm GM (click here) Amazon US allows import via Amazon Germany to avoid customs duties? Would that even work?

Version 2.75 introduces Focus Bracketing within Shutter app – a convenient iOS remote for Sony cameras.
With Shutter, you can conveniently capture sequences of photos between two defined focus distances. Simply select the nearest and furthest points, the number of photos you want to capture and click the trigger button. Shutter app will do the rest.

The companies Vexcel and Ximea have just announced their new industrial camera using the new Sony 247mp medium format sensor. Don’t think we are going to see that sensor in a more classic camera for photographers.

Surprise: Also the wight year old Sony A7rIII got a firmware update (along ZV-E10, A7rIV, A7III)

There is a firmware update also for the eight year old Sony A7rIII ( firmware page here ). Here are the improvements:

  • Allows the camera to display a notification when new software is available
  • WPA and WEP functionalities are no longer supported. You will no longer be able to select WPA or WEP when connecting to Wi-Fi. Please use the more secure WPA2 moving forward
  • Improves the operational stability of the camera
    Note: This update is only available for Windows and macOS. A memory card version is not provided
