Sony manager Mark Weir retired

PetaPixel posted a beautiful homage to Mark:

Mark Weir is a legend in this industry, who absolutely put customers and experience first and foremost. Anyone reading this who enjoys good beer and even better company, raise a glass to Mark Weir tonight!

I personally never met him, but instinctively always like his presence and the way he spoke in interviews. I can only wish him well for his next adventure!

New Sony patent discloses the design of three compact primes: 12mm f/2.8, 14mm f/2.0 and 20mm f/1.8

A new Sony patent has been published on February 6, 2024. All three lenses have the characteristics to be compact but still perform extremely well:

  • 12mm f/2.8
  • 14mm f/2.0
  • 20mm f/1.8

DJI releases new DJI Mic 2 hot shoe adapter for Sony cameras

I have been waiting for this a very long time. DJI announce a new DJI Mic 2 hot shoe adapter that works on Sony cameras. It allows you two things:

1) Direct audio recording without the 3.5mm cable
2) Powers the receiver

For now it has been announced in China only (DJI China store ). Not sure when it will be available elsewhere.

Let’s talk about this new Sony 247 Megapixel medium format: Phase One and Hasselblad and maybe even Sony will use it?

Sony just announced a new 247 Megapixel medium format sensor. You can find the specs here: sony-semicon.com/en/products/is/industry/selector.html I am sure we will see a camera using this sensor within the next 12 months. Likely from Hasselblad and Phase One…but my dream is to see a fixed lens Sony camera using this sensor!
