Peel Regional Police say they’re trying to identify two suspects after an elderly woman’s 18-karat gold necklace and pendant were stolen during a distraction theft in Mississauga late last month.

Investigators say the woman was walking in the Garnetwood Chase and Rathburn Road East area at around 4:20 p.m. on June 26 when she was approached by an unknown female who had exited a blue, newer model Kia Sportage.

Ajax youth, 16, charged after allegedly ramming police car with a stolen vehicle

A 16-year-old boy has been charged after he allegedly rammed a police car with a stolen vehicle in Ajax.

Durham police say officers saw a Ford pick-up truck driving dangerously in a parking lot in the area of Kingston and Westney roads around 1:35 a.m. on June 11.

They attempted to contain the vehicle during a traffic stop but the suspect allegedly intentionally rammed a police cruiser and fled from officers.

It was later confirmed the vehicle has been stolen from a residence

15-year-old arrested for allegedly brandishing knife, threatening taxi driver in Oshawa

A 15-year-old boy is facing charges after allegedly threatening a taxi driver with a weapon in Oshawa.

The taxi driver approached a Durham region police officer around 5:40 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Bloor Street East and Ritson Road South.

Police say the taxi driver was close to dropping off the boy at his destination in his taxi when the suspect allegedly brandished what the taxi driver believed was a gun in his waistband and made threats. The suspect then fled the vehicle.

Liberals shut down debate over proposed probe into B.C. condo buyout plan

OTTAWA — Liberal MPs shut down a Conservative attempt to have the House of Commons ethics committee investigate the government’s plan to turn unsold condos into affordable housing in British Columbia.

The Liberal government joined with the B.C. government last month to announce a plan to have the governments buy up 2,200 vacant condo units to convert into affordable housing.

The Conservatives recalled the House ethics committee to probe the plan, and B.C. Conservative MP Aaron Gunn moved a motion at today’s emergency

Rogers Sports & Media shutting down news radio stations outside Toronto

Rogers Sports & Media shut down its news radio stations in Calgary (660 NewsRadio Calgary), Halifax (95.7 News Radio Halifax), Kitchener (570 NewsRadio Kitchener) and Vancouver (1130 NewsRadio Vancouver) on Tuesday. Vancouver and Calgary’s sports radio stations, Sportsnet 650 and 960, were also shut down.

Eighty employees were affected by the closures in radio. Two hundred and thirty positions were eliminated across Rogers Sports & Media overall.

FIFA is investigating an incident between a fan and streamer IShowSpeed at a World Cup match

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — FIFA said Tuesday it is investigating an incident involving streamer and YouTuber IShowSpeed with a fan in the stands during the World Cup match between Argentina and Cape Verde on Friday.

IShowSpeed was livestreaming the game and could be heard asking a fan in an Argentina jersey what was being said toward him. The fan speaking in Spanish appeared to be telling IShowSpeed, who is Black, to “go cry to the zoo.”

Casino operator fined $170k after failing to report potential money laundering: AGCO

PICKERING — Ontario’s alcohol and gaming regulator says the operator of Pickering Casino Resort is facing a $170,000 fine after failing to identify “high risk” patrons and report suspicious activity, including possible signs of money laundering.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario says an audit of Pickering Casino Resort showed Great Canadian Entertainment failed to “properly assess and track high-risk patrons that were not subject to required enhanced scrutiny.”
