WASHINGTON — A Republican congresswoman for New York said she is introducing legislation to compel the United States Trade Representative to conduct an investigation into Canadian provinces that are not purchasing American alcohol.

“Canadian provinces cannot be allowed to hold American wineries, breweries and distilleries hostage and attempt to ransom them,” Tenney said in a news release Monday.

“American wineries, breweries, distilleries and other beverage producers deserve fair access to Canadian markets, not discriminatory treatment from one of our closest trading partners.”

2 dogs shot and killed in Etobicoke, multiple suspects seen running away from scene

Toronto police are trying to piece together the details of an incident in Etobicoke on Monday morning that led to two dogs being shot.

Police were called to the area of Rexdale Boulevard and Bergamot Avenue shortly before 11:00 a.m. for the sound of gunshots.

An unknown number of suspects were seen running away from the scene through Rexlington Park. Police do not have a clear description of them, only describing one as a male wearing grey clothing.

Ontario tornado with 18-km track among pair of June 30 twisters: researchers

Researchers say a pair of weak tornadoes touched down in eastern Ontario about a week ago, snapping trees and badly damaging barn roofs.

No injuries were reported from the tornadoes that formed along the leading edge of a June 30 afternoon thunderstorm from around Verona to Kingston.

Astronaut Jeremy Hansen leaving Canadian Space Agency

OTTAWA — Astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who made a historic trip around the moon aboard NASA’s Artemis 2 mission in April, is leaving the Canadian Space Agency.

Islandwide blackout hits Cuba as its fuel reserve dwindles and aging grid crumbles

HAVANA, Cuba (AP) — An islandwide blackout hit Cuba on Monday as the country’s fuel reserves dwindle and its electric grid continues to crumble.

The blackout in the country of nearly 10 million people was reported by the state-run Electric Union, which said on X that the cause is under investigation. The Ministry of Energy and Mines wrote on X that it has activated protocols to restore electricity.
