Celebrated Canadian fashion designer Marilyn Brooks has died at the age of 93

TORONTO — A Canadian fashion designer who popularized a clothing style that was famously worn by rebellious British youths in the 1960s has died.

Norma Meneguzzi Spall, a friend and spokesperson for Marilyn Brooks’ family, says Brooks died Saturday of natural causes at the age of 93.

Jeanne Beker, a Ontario-based fashion journalist, says she remembers Brooks’s boutique, The Unicorn, was the most hip and funky place to shop at when she was a teen in the 1960s

Drivers charged after school bus, SUV crash on Highway 11

Provincial police in Orillia have laid charges after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 11 on Sunday involving a school bus.

Police say the crash occurred just after 1:30 p.m. on the highway between Line 2 and Line 3 in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

“A school bus and passenger vehicle were involved in the collision that left the highway shut down for several hours,” police said in a release. “Highway 11 was closed in both North and South directions and remained closed

Delta pilot reports a close encounter with a July Fourth firework before landing in Chicago

NEW YORK (AP) — A Delta Air Lines flight and a high-flying firework reportedly came into contact in the sky above Chicago as the city celebrated the Fourth of July holiday.

The pilot of Delta flight 1076 notified air traffic controllers just before landing at Chicago Midway International Airport on Saturday night that a firework hit the commercial airliner during its descent. In an audio recording published online by LiveATC.net, the pilot described feeling “a big bang” on the plane.

1 person critically injured in Brampton shooting

Police in Peel Region are searching for at least two suspects following a shooting in Brampton that has left one person with critical injuries.

Investigators say the shooting occurred in the Earlsbridge Boulevard and Edenbrook Hill Drive area just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Paramedics tell CityNews one person was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The age and gender of the victim were not immediately available.
