Northbound lanes of the Hwy. 427 closed due to single vehicle crash

All northbound lanes of Highway 427 are closed at Finch Avenue due to a single vehicle crash.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the area of the highway in Etobicoke around 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

The occupants are currently being asessed by paramedics.

The closure is expected to last four hours. The southbound lanes remain fully open.

Canada to host 2028 Francophonie summit in Ottawa region

OTTAWA — Canada will host the 2028 global summit of the Francophonie in the Ottawa area, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Wednesday.

“We have decided to bring the world to Canada to celebrate the vitality, the wealth and the resilience of the French language in this country and around the world,” Carney said in French at a midday Canada Day event near Parliament Hill.

The summit will take place in the National Capital Region, which encompasses Ottawa and the area around Gatineau, Que.

CIBC agrees to settle NSF fee class-action case, will pay $10 million

TORONTO — Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce has agreed to pay $10 million in a proposed settlement of a class-action lawsuit regarding non-sufficient funds fees.

The case took issue with CIBC’s practice of charging NSF fees on re-presented pre-authorized debit transactions between Sept. 21, 2020 and May 31, 2024.

CIBC does not admit any liability in the proposed settlement reached on June 24 that came together with the help of a mediator.

Man wanted Canada-wide in extortions of Brampton business owners arrested in Edmonton

A 22-year-old man with alleged ties to an international criminal network that extorts South Asian business owners across Canada is in custody in connection with two violent incidents in Brampton earlier this year.
