7 injured after car crashes into mall fitness centre in London, Ont.: paramedics

Seven people in London, Ont., were sent to hospital on Friday morning after a vehicle crashed through a brick wall and into a shopping mall gym.

Five people were in serious condition and two others had minor injuries, paramedics said.

The crash happened around 7:40 a.m. at Sherwood Forest Mall when a vehicle went through a brick wall and into a GoodLife Fitness gym. People inside the 24-hour gym were among those injured, police said.

Man arrested for alleged assault on streetcar in Leslieville

A 26-year-old man is facing charges in connection to an alleged assault on board a streetcar in Leslieville back in May.

Toronto police were called to the area of Cowell Avenue and Queen Street East just before 8 p.m. on May 17.

It’s alleged a man and the victim were on a streetcar when he assaulted the victim, unprovoked.

The suspect fled the area and the victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Road closures during FIFA World Cup matches in Toronto

Statistics Canada reports household debt outpaced income in first quarter

OTTAWA — Statistics Canada says the amount Canadian households owe outpaced income for the sixth straight quarter.

The agency says the seasonally adjusted ratio of household credit market debt as a proportion of household disposable rose 0.9 percentage points to 179.6 per cent in this first quarter of this year.

In other words, there was roughly $1.80 in credit market debt for every dollar of household disposable income.

The City of Toronto will officially be opening 15 outdoor and wading pools for the evenings and weekends this Saturday.

The pools will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
