Housing advocate Eric Lombardi enters Ontario Liberal leadership race

TORONTO — A housing advocate has entered the Ontario Liberal Party leadership race.

Eric Lombardi says he will focus on improving the economy to pay for better education and health-care systems.

The engineering graduate from the University of Waterloo has worked in tech and finance and been outspoken about housing reform, especially how it affects younger voters who feel left out of the political and housing game.

Lombardi joins a group of four other candidates competing for the party leadership, including former Liberal MP and cabinet member Navdeep Bains.

Ancient squirrel feces offer ‘time capsule’ of environment thousands of years ago

A researcher in British Columbia recently discovered that ancient squirrel scat can still smell just as fresh today as it did some 700,000 years ago.

Ottawa’s new Digital Safety Act expected to include under-16 social media ban

OTTAWA — The federal government is expected to bar kids under the age of 16 from social media in new legislation set to be introduced as early as Wednesday.

The government gave notice Tuesday that it will introduce a bill “to enact the Digital Safety Act and the Digital Safety Commission of Canada Act.”

Culture Minister Marc Miller, who is taking the lead on the legislation, said the government will take all reasonable measures to ensure kids are safe.

Toronto man arrested for allegedly trying to open bank account with fake ID in Whitby

Durham Regional Police have arrested a man from Toronto after he allegedly tried to fraudulently open a bank account in Whitby.

Police responded to a fraud call at a CIBC bank at 308 Taunton Road E. around 4 p.m. on June 4.

Staff at the bank contacted police after a man allegedly tried to open a bank account using fraudulent identification documents. Officers arrived and took the man into custody without incident.

Canada sanctions more ‘extremist’ West Bank settlers
