MONTREAL — The lawyer for a homeless man who once attended al-Qaida training camps says his client has pleaded guilty in Montreal to threatening to bomb public transit.

6 dogs rescued from Scarborough house fire

Six dogs were rescued from a Scarborough house fire late Friday afternoon.
Toronto Fire Services (TFS) were called to the area of Ellesmere Road and Scarborough Golf Club Road just after 4 p.m. for a 2-alarm fire.
Heavy flames were spotted at the back of a detached house, TFS said.
Both residents made it out of the home without injuries and fire fighters rescued six dogs that were still inside.

Carney discussed artificial intelligence with Pope Leo
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney told Pope Leo XIV on Friday that Canada wants to take a leadership role in the responsible development of artificial intelligence.
The conversation happened days after the Pope called for robust regulation of AI.

A 28-year-old Georgetown man is facing charges in connection with a sexual assault investigation.
Police in Halton region say just after 7 p.m. on May 25, a female under the age of 16 was walking in the area of James Street and Draper Street in Georgetown when she was approached by a man, who began a conversation with her. Investigators allege he then sexually assaulted her.
Police say the young teen did not suffer any physical injuries.

Barrie police arrest suspect after man found on ground with fatal stab wound
Barrie Police say they’ve arrested a suspect after a fatal stabbing in the city on Friday morning.
Officers were called to the Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street West area at around 11:30 a.m. for reports of an injured male lying on the ground.
“When police arrived, it was determined that the victim had suffered a stab wound,” a police release states.
A 36-year-old Barrie man was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Homicide Unit investigating after body found in Hamilton Harbour

The Hamilton police Homicide Unit is investigating the discovery of a body in Hamilton Harbour on Friday morning.
The deceased person was found in the water near Wilcox Street North at around 8:00 a.m.
“The circumstances have been deemed suspicious,” Hamilton police noted in a release.
Police have not released any further information about the person who was found deceased.
