City of Toronto unveils names of new electric ferries
The City of Toronto has unveiled the names of its new electric ferries, set to arrive in late 2026 and early 2027.
The electric ferries will be called “Lady of the Quays,” and “Toronto Islander.”
Residents were invited to have their say on the new names, picked from a shortlist put together by a committee comprised of both City staff and community partners.
“Lady of the Quays” was the first place winner, representing 15 per cent of the total votes
Statistics Canada reports wholesale sales up in March
OTTAWA — Statistics Canada says wholesale sales, excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain, rose 1.9 per cent to $89 billion in March.
The agency says the increase came as five of the seven subsectors it tracks climbed higher.
The largest increase was posted by the machinery, equipment and supplies subsector which grew 6.5 per cent to $19.5 billion, helped by a 17.9 per cent increase in the computer and communications equipment and supplies
Oilers fire head coach Kris Knoblauch
The Edmonton Oilers are making a change behind the bench.
Kris Knoblauch was fired as head coach on Thursday, Sportsnet can confirm.
The move comes after reports emerged that the Oilers had asked to interview former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy, but had permission withheld by their division rival.
Knoblauch, 47, took over at the helm of the Oilers in November 2023, replacing Jay Woodcroft.

A 38‑year‑old man is facing a string of charges after police say he crashed a stolen school bus into a McDonald’s drive‑thru barrier in Ajax late Monday night while impaired.
Durham police were called around 11:30 p.m. on May 11 after reports of a shortened school bus driving erratically near Taunton Road West and Westney Road North, near 5th Concession Road.

Man arrested after firearm discharged in Queen and Bathurst area
A man has been arrested for allegedly discharging a firearm in the Queen and Bathurst streets area early Thursday morning.
Toronto police were called to the area around 3:15 a.m. for reports of shots fired.
One man was arrested on the scene. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but police say they don’t know how the person was injured.
No further injuries were reported.

BORDEAUX, France (AP) — Passengers unaffected by an illness outbreak on a British cruise ship have been allowed off the ship in the French port city of Bordeaux, while authorities confirmed the cause of the outbreak is norovirus, a nasty stomach bug that spreads easily.
French authorities had initially ordered over 1,700 passengers and crew on The Ambition cruise ship to remain on board, but then decided late Wednesday to let those unaffected disembark. One passenger was spotted raising his arms in triumph while leaving the vessel.
