Three days after announcing a settlement of the lawsuit brought by Lively over the 2024 film “It Ends With Us,” her lawyers put out a statement Thursday calling the deal a “resounding victory.”

Man critically injured after being struck by vehicle in Scarborough

A man has suffered serious, potentially life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Scarborough.

Toronto police say they were called to Lawrence Avenue East, west of Scarborough Golf Club Road, just after 5 p.m. Thursday for reports a pedestrian had been struck.

Paramedics tell CityNews a man was transported to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition. No age was provided, but first responders said it was an adult male.

Federal court rules against new global tariffs Trump imposed after loss at the Supreme Court

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal court ruled Thursday against the new global tariffs that President Donald Trump imposed after a stinging

A split three-judge panel of the Court of International Trade in New York found the 10% global tariffs were illegal after small businesses sued.

The court ruled 2-1 that Trump overstepped the tariff power that Congress had allowed the president under the law. The tariffs are “invalid″ and ”unauthorized by law,” the majority wrote.

No service on TTC’s Line 2 between Jane and Ossington

Service is currently suspended between Jane and Ossington stations on Line 2 due to an injury on the tracks.

Toronto police say there is an ongoing investigation at track level at Dundas West subway station, adding there is no risk to public safety at this time.

The TTC says shuttle buses will operate between the affected stations.

Riders can also use GO transit at Bloor or Union GO stations using a TTC fare.

No details on when service might resume have been released.

Ford government appointments administrator at Conestoga College following ‘egregious financial decisions’

The Ford government has relieved the board of governors and appointed an administrator at Conestoga College in Kitchener after an audit found “significant financial misuse and governance failings.”

Nolan Quinn, the minister in charge of colleges and universities, says Linda Franklin has been appointed to work with the college’s interim president to refocus the school’s priorities on student success while restoring financial prudence and governance to the college.

Police issue warning for high-risk offender released from prison, residing in Toronto

Toronto police have issued a community safety warning about a high-risk offender who has been released from prison and will be living in Toronto.

Dave Anthoney Avis was convicted of sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault causing bodily harm and three counts of forcible confinement in 2018 in Winnipeg.

He was released on Thursday and will be living in the Toronto area, subject to multiple conditions.

The safety warning about Avis was issued as Toronto police say he has a demonstrated risk to the community,

Conservatives press Liberals on Snowbirds aircraft retirement

OTTAWA — The Opposition Conservatives are accusing the Liberal government of hiding plans to halt Snowbirds performances next year.

Conservative MP Fraser Tolmie raised the issue in question period today, saying air shows across North America are “quietly being told” they cannot book the Snowbirds for events in 2027 and that this summer will be their final season.

Defence Minister David McGuinty says he plans to provide an update on the future of the Snowbirds on May 19.

Toronto police are searching for a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault in downtown Toronto.
