Plant-based meat alternative brand Yves Veggie Cuisine is making a comeback.

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. says it’s reviving five Yves products, including veggie deli sliced products and original and Mexican veggie ground round.

Maple Leaf spokesperson Victoria Berry says the relaunch reflects the company’s confidence in the plant-based category.

She says the launch date has not been set yet, but expects to see the products in stores this summer.

USPS considers allowing people to ship handguns through the mail

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Handguns could be mailed through the United States Postal Service for the first time in nearly 100 years if a proposed rule under the Trump administration takes effect. Democratic attorneys general in two dozen states sent a letter this week in opposition.

Finance Canada faces large backlog of requests for tariff relief: documents

OTTAWA — The federal government granted more than 200 requests for relief from having to pay counter-tariffs on imports from the United States, but faces a backlog of more than 800 requests awaiting decision.

TORONTO — A new report says average asking rents in Canada have fallen back to similar levels from three years ago as April marked the 19th consecutive year-over-year drop.

‘Just keep silent’: Court hears that couple charged in Liberty Village death told friend not to talk to police

The trial for a Toronto couple accused of murdering their neighbour in Liberty Village last year entered its third day on Thursday, with the Crown attorney calling a woman from Vietnam who was staying with the couple at the time of the incident to testify.

Khoa Tran, 36, of Toronto is facing second-degree murder charges and his wife, Quynh (Isabelle) Nguyen, 30, is charged with being an accessory after the fact and doing an indignity to the body. Both have pled not guilty.

Air Canada cuts more U.S. routes early due to surging jet fuel prices

Air Canada says it is scaling back more of its U.S. summer service as soaring jet fuel prices continue to reshape airline schedules across the country.

The carrier confirmed with CityNews on Thursday that four seasonal routes — originally planned to run through the end of summer — will now end weeks earlier than expected, with plans to resume in summer 2027.

The affected routes include flights from Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal to mid‑sized U.S. cities that rely heavily on seasonal demand.

Martial arts instructor, 28, charged in child sexual abuse case

A 28-year-old martial arts instructor from Barrie, Ont. has been charged in connection with a sexual assault investigation involving a child.

Police say Daniel Tallim is the sole proprietor of Alpha Martial Arts on Little Avenue and has been heavily involved in the martial arts community within the city of Barrie for several years.

He was arrested on Wednesday and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

Investigators believe there may be more victims and encourage anyone with information to contact police.

After taking part in a panel about the film’s success at Departure Festival, Maggie Kang was surprised on stage by Mayor Olivia Chow.
