Netflix posts Resident Evil TV show synopsis then takes it down

In a nutshell: Adaptations of video games to live action films or television shows are rarely good. Of course, that has not stopped studios from trying. We only learned of the new Netflix Resident Evil property earlier this year, but it seems that the series might be further along than we thought.

Netflix inadvertently uploaded a brief summary of its upcoming Resident Evil television series to its Media Center webpage last Friday. The entry appeared with several other productions but was quickly taken down. A copy was archived on the Wayback Machine


Justice Department indicts four members of the Chinese military for Equifax breach

What just happened? The US Department of Justice on Monday announced it has indicted four members of the Chinese military with hacking into the computer systems of credit monitoring firm Equifax in 2017 and stealing the personally identifiable information of nearly 150 million Americans.

The government alleges that Wu Zhiyong, Wang Qian, Xu Ke and Liu Lei were members of the People’s Liberation Army Research Institute, a branch of the Chinese military, and conspired to hack into Equifax’s networks , maintain access to the computers

Samsung reveals its Galaxy Z Flip clamshell phone in Oscars commercial

In brief: Samsung is set to announce its clamshell-style handset at an Unpacked event tomorrow, but the company has just revealed the device in a commercial aired during the Academy Awards.

Samsung is expected to unveil three Galaxy S20 phones and the Galaxy Z Flip at tomorrow’s event, but the Korean tech giant used the Oscars’ huge audience to tease the folding handset. The commercial was tweeted by Nilay Patel, editor in chief of The Verge.


China's smartphone shipments could fall 50% due to coronavirus disruption

Why it matters: The coronavirus is having an effect on the world economy, and one of the hardest areas hit could be smartphone sales in China. According to analysts, the precautions taken against the virus could see handset sales fall by up to 50 percent.

The coronavirus has disrupted several tech industry sectors, from canceled conferences , to delayed shipments , to numerous MWC pullouts . With many retail stores in China closed for an extended period and production delays, research firm Canalys expects that the world’s biggest smartphone market
