The semiconductor shortages continue to worsen, according to a recent Bloomberg report , Lead times, which is the amount of time it takes for a customer, like an OEM or chip designer (like AMD or Nvidia), to receive their chip has stretched out to a whopping 20.2 weeks for more advanced semiconductors, and 26.5 weeks for microcontrollers and logic chips. According to the Susquehanna Financial Group, a firm that researches semiconductor shortages, this is the longest wait time

Apple's iPhone warning underscores risk of chip shortage into 2022

TOKYO -- The chip shortage that has disrupted car and electronics production worldwide looks increasingly likely to last into next year, industry watchers say, with Apple revealing this week that it expects the supply troubles to spread to iPhones.

The year started off with a deep freeze and resulting power outages across Texas that paralyzed semiconductor plants in the U.S. state. A fire that later broke out at Renesas Electronics' Naka factory in Japan delivered another blow to the supply chain.

Although the affected plants have mostly recovered from those

Intel Warns of Consumer Chip Shortages for Q3

Shortages of chips and components have plagued the high-tech industry for several quarters now and while semiconductor companies and their peers are investing in additional manufacturing capacities, there is no light at the end of the tunnel. This week Intel warned that in Q3 there will be unprecedented shortage of chips for consumer PCs.

"Persistent industry-wide component and substrate shortages are expected to lower CCG revenues sequentially," said George Davies, chief financial officer of Intel, said during Intel's Q

Intel reiterates chip supply shortages could last several years - Reuters

Intel Corp's (INTC.O) CEO said on Monday it could take several years for a global shortage of semiconductors to be resolved, a problem that has shuttered some auto production lines and is also being felt in other areas, including consumer electronics.

Pat Gelsinger told a virtual session of the Computex trade show in Taipei that the work-and-study-from-home trend during the COVID-19 pandemic had led to a "cycle of explosive growth in semiconductors" that has placed huge strain on

AMD CEO Lisa Su Doesn’t Seem All That Worried About the Chip Shortage

AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su doesn’t seem all that worried about the global chip shortage. In fact, she said in an interview with Bloomberg that this is just a “megacycle” the semiconductor industry has to go through. It's the type of thing she says she has watched the industry go through similar periods of demand far outpacing supply throughout her career.

“Semiconductors do go through these cycles,” she said. “There are some times when supply is much greater

Global chip crunch is causing a rise in TV prices

The big picture: The ongoing shortage of components has caused a lot of headaches for several industries, affecting the production of everything from smartwatches and toasters to washing machines, phones, tablets, laptops, home routers, and cars. Now it's the turn of TVs, which are seeing an increase in sticker prices while manufacturers struggle to acquire the necessary components to satisfy demand.

In March we learned the global chip shortage had such an impact on supply chains that we wouldn't see a full recovery until 20
