Adding a class to in a module in Drupal 7

In Drupal 6, I would often resort to using my theme's template.php file to implement template_preprocess() , and add in the class to Drupal's $body_classes array. In Drupal 7, some new hooks were introduced that allow me to do this more easily, and inside my .module files.

Introducing hook_preprocess_HOOK()

<?php/** * Implements hook_preprocess_HOOK(). */function custom_preprocess_html(&

Archdiocese of St. Louis' Eucharistic Video

One of the final projects I was working on, but did not get to see grow into completion, while I was working with the Archdiocese of St. Louis was the Archdiocese's 2011 Eucharistic Congress . I actually did very little of the work involved in getting the website and video ready for the congress, but was privileged to work with some extraordinarily talented Catholics on both projects.

First, take in this great video (which will likely be passed around a bit in the days ahead!):

Catholic Tech Talk's Top-Five Diocesan Websites

Archdiocese of St. Louis - Screenshot
Catholic Tech Talk, a Catholic tech/web discussion website, recently posted what they believe to be the five best Catholic Diocesan websites , and I'm happy to report that our very own Archdiocese of St. Louis was ranked #2!

Other dioceses to make the list:

  1. Archdiocese of Boston
  2. Archdiocese of St. Louis
  3. Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis
  4. Diocese of Trenton
  5. Diocese of Scranton

I am, and will always be, honored to have had the opportunity to work with the Archdiocese of St. Louis for a

Moving Scheduler Module's 'Scheduling Options' Out of the Vertical Tabs in D7

...or, "Always Check Your Module Weights when form_alter'ing"

Scheduling options from Scheduler module

I spent about half an hour today trying to use hook_form_alter() to move the 'Scheduling options' fieldset (provided by the Scheduler module) out of my node form's vertical tabs (down where URL path settings, comment settings, etc. are jumbled together).

I couldn't even see the 'scheduler_settings' form settings when I looked at the form's array,

Review: MaxConnect USB External Enclosure for Unibody MBP Optical Drive

Jeff's Rating: 3 /5

tl;dr : A good way to get some use out of a displaced internal SuperDrive. Case design has its flaws, but it works pretty well.

If you want to make your MacBook Pro a true mobile workhorse, there are few things you can do that are better than adding in a second hard drive (for capacity or RAID), and/or swapping out the main hard drive for an SSD and loading your OS onto that (it's ridiculously fast!

Fixing Problems with Passwordless SSH Authentication

I use CentOS, but these guidelines should apply no matter what flavor of linux you use. We all know it's a good security practice to lock down your server and require SSH logins to use an RSA key/pair , rather than a password, right? Plus, it makes it easier for you to login to your server from your primary computers/devices...

I was setting up a new server recently, and spent probably half an hour figuring out why the standard way of creating a shared key

On Writing Documentation

I've been slowly reading through "Coders at Work," an excellent book in which Peter Siebel interviews many different programmers on their work and craft, and I hit a great little snippet of advice from Peter Norvig:

"The overall design of what's going to do what, that's really important to lay out first. It's got to be something that everybody understands and it's also got to be the right choice."

Basically, before you start doing some huge project, have

A New Job

Since the announcements seem to be making the rounds today, I figured it would be a good time to post this little bit of news to my blog: I'm leaving my position in the Archdiocese of St. Louis to pursue another opportunity!

Starting May 2, I'll be working with a great new team of Catholics for flockNote , a service/website for Catholic parishes and organizations to help register individuals and send them, well, "Notes!"

I've been working for the Archdiocese of St

The Magic Keyhole in Rome

During part of a driving tour of ancient Rome this year, our (my wife's and my) tour guide drove us to a small courtyard on one of the hills near the Colosseum. As he parked the car, I noticed two rather serious looking militia with automatic weapons standing in the courtyard—and I hoped they weren't there for me! They had their fingers over the triggers the whole time I was there, though they seemed friendly enough as we passed by on our way to a

This is a panorama shot from the top of St. Peters Basilica in Rome (the Cupola is the Dome).

The image is 9611x2937, and if you view the original , you can see details down to some of the furthest buildings—such as the two small domes of St. Maria Maggiore, the dome of the Pantheon, the 'Wedding Cake' (Monument to Vittorio Emmanuele II), and more! If you zoom in, you can also see
