Review: Tron: Legacy - Firing on all ... circuits?

Avid fans of the original Tron (like myself) have likely anticipated the release of Tron: Legacy since the day the first hints of a remake appeared in 2008. A lot of pressure was on the Legacy filmmakers to not only keep the original sense of wonderment and otherworldliness of the first movie, but also bring the technology and ideas from the first movie into the twenty-first century.
The short version of this review is: you should see this movie. It is a great homage to the original
Drupal.org approaching 1,000,000 nids!
I noticed a few months ago that we hit the mid-950,000 range for posts... since then, I've forgotten to mark down the numbers through time (I wanted to try plotting the exact day when we'd cross over to 1,000,000 posts).
Today (December 14), we were at node #998,346 (obviously, some nodes have been deleted, and database causes notwithstanding.
Sending Recurring Emails to Thousands, using Simplenews as a Backend
I recently had a rather unique project requirement on one of my sites: I needed to send out a weekly email to hundreds (soon to be thousands) of site users, with the same template each week, but with the latest data from the website.
Basically, what I wanted to do was create a View on my site of the latest 10-12 items, and have that view be sent out to everyone (along with the views header/footer) in HTML (with a plain text alternative
I'm (almost) Drupal 7... and so should you!
I've now created three different Drupal 7 sites, and I can heartily state that I'm pleased with where the community has come in the past couple of years—especially from a UX perspective (the admin overlay has actually turned out to work VERY well across all the browsers I use). I will be posting more impressions of Drupal 7 from a themer's perspective in the coming weeks (check out an older post on D7 theming here ).
I'm going to attempt an upgrade of
Reeder App for Mac - Usage Tips for My New Favorite News Reader...
After about a week's use of Reeder for Mac (currently at 'Draft 4' status), I can finally ditch NetNewsWire, and confidently state that I would pay maybe something like $20 for this new Mac application.
NetNewsWire has always been a little slow, a little clunky, but at least it was reliable.

Reeder brings a lot of the simplicity of the iOS Reeder apps (both of which I have - Reeder for iPad and Reeder for iPhone ) to desktop Macs. There are some odd

Drupal Simplenews: Automatically Subscribe New Users to a Newsletter
One of the sites I am setting up requires that all users be subscribed to a certain newsletter (or maybe two, depending on who they are) via Simplenews when they create their accounts (actually, their accounts are automatically created via LDAP... but that's another story).
Looking around, I found this post explaining how you might be able to auto-subscribe new users , and it led me to look up Simplenews' simplenews_subscribe_user() function.
Basically, you can add
Importing HDV footage from Sony HDV Cameras into iMovie '11 (or '08/'09)
I have had a ton of trouble today getting a rented Sony HVR-Z1U HDV Camera to work with iMovie '11 - I was having trouble both importing pre-recorded footage (in VCR mode) and importing live footage (in Camera mode). QuickTime Player would allow me to import video from the camera at DV quality, but I couldn't get HD.
I found that the camera was downconverting the video to regular DV (squeezing the pixels so it would still be a 16:
St. Louis Gets New Auxiliary Bishop - former Msgr. Ed Rice!
I would like to extend a very heartfelt congratulations to now-Bishop-designate Edward M. Rice, who will be ordained as the new Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Louis on January 13!
Bishop-designate Rice is a very cheerful, fun, and friendly priest who is faithful, prayerful, and loving of all the people entrusted to his spiritual/pastoral leadership. I have had the honor of working with him from time to time as he has helped at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary and in his

Congratulations to Raymond Cardinal Burke!
Congratulations to Raymond Cardinal Burke (or Cardinal Burke for short), as he and 23 other men have been elevated to the rank of Cardinal in Rome this morning. We are very happy to see such a wonderful, loving, and holy man become a Cardinal!
