Prepping for Git on drupal.org - Need a Git client? Try Tower

A few weeks ago, I heard rumors of a new Git client for the Mac that was supposed to be even easier/prettier than my past favorite, GitX (specifically, brotherbard's fork of GitX ). GitX is simple, and very usable, but just feels rough sometimes. But... it's free, so it is very nice in that way.

On Developing for Android... or Not

After having jumped into the pool of mobile app development head first (more on that to come), I finally have a little more perspective when it comes to developing for iOS vs. Android.

One of the first things that I did when I started developing an App for iOS is purchase an iPod Touch. There's no way I wanted to be using my iPhone for all my development work, and I needed a device I could acquire quickly, at a low cost (i.e. without a contract

Winter Ice and Snow Storm Hits St. Louis Hard

The video below simply shows some clips I shot in front of my condo during this year's major snow and ice storm that's hitting St. Louis as of the posting of this blog entry. The video was shot handheld, and you can hear the loud and constant patter of the sleet hitting the ground.

So far we have half an inch of sleet, but the sleet should be changing to snow soon. Some areas of Metro St. Louis should have over a foot (approaching two feet!)

One Billion Stories - Catholic Stories

One Billion Stories.com Logo

I just had dinner last night with a great young Catholic, Seth DeMoor, who is from Colorado and runs a (relatively) new Catholic website, One Billion Stories.com .

The website has a pretty simple premise: go around the world, collecting stories of some of the billion-plus Catholics, and post them as five-minute videos to the website.

Seth seems like he has a pretty good idea, and the videos cover a lot of great stories. I like the idea, and I hope Seth

Integrate a Webform (3.x) with PayPal

For quite some time, I've wanted to integrate a particular webform with PayPal, since many nonprofits I help use that payment service. With older versions of PayPal, one could add some PHP code into a webform on the site to do this, but it was (a) hackish, and (b) a much less maintainable and secure way of accomplishing the goal I was trying to achieve. So I never did it.

However, after reading Additional processing in Drupal's Webform 3 module (from Drupal

Visibility for Mac

Visibility Icon
I just released Visbility , a simple Mac application that makes showing and hiding invisible files easy, via Midwestern Mac, LLC.

I created this app for three reasons:

  1. I'd never programmed in Objective-C before, so I wanted to test the waters.
  2. I wanted to go through the process of submitting an App to the Mac App Store (crossing my fingers as to whether I would be able to get the App approved or not).
  3. I wanted an easier (and less buggy) way to show invisible

Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death - Repaired! (in St. Louis)

Achievement Unlocked - Red Ring of Death (Xbox 360 T-Shirt)
About a month ago, when I was settling down with my wife to watch a quick episode of Cake Boss via Netflix, I turned on the Xbox 360, but all the sudden, I received (for the third time on this Xbox) a nice present from Microsoft: the dreaded red ring of death ( RROD ).

"Not to fear!" said I, "I'll get a free warranty repair, like I did the first two times this happened!"

Little did I know.

Mac OS X Mail - Exchange Account Stuck unless Mail Quit and Restarted?

I was having this particular problem off and on when using Mac OS X Mail on my work Mac, which was set up to use our corporate exchange server, and an 'Exchange 2007' Mail account: Every so often, Mail would quit getting new messages in the inbox, and when I checked the 'Activity' window, I would get the following error:

Removing a Stuck Disc (CD/DVD) from a Mac - EVERY Way Possible

CD
Most of the time, I'm extremely happy with Apple's decision to make all their physical media (CD/DVD) drives slot-loading, as it means there's one less part to accidentally break off my Mac, and it just looks so darn pretty! But every now and then, I have a hellish experience with the drive. This usually happens when:

  • A CD/DVD disc is warped or really thick (like most discs with homemade labels)
  • I'm given a mini CD

Photo Used in History Channel Documentary

I've had a DVD from Prometheus Entertainment/History Channel sitting on my desk for a year and a half, and I had almost forgotten why I had it by the time I finally sat down to watch the DVD. The DVD is of the show " Angels & Demons Decoded ," which aired on the History Channel on May 10, 2009.

While I was watching a part about Bernini's artwork, I noticed a photo of the 'West Ponente' direction marker in St.
