Sony interview with DPreview: ZV series does not replace the RX100 series

Dpreview had a chat with two Sony managers at the CP+ show. Key info:

  • Sony expects market to growth further
  • ZV series is particularly popular among youngsters
  • ZV series does NOT replace the RX100 and the manager said “We understand the necessity and requests for the RX100 series
  • If they would have tried to make a 50-200mm f/2.0 GM  size and weight would increase significantly”

Sounds like we might get a RX100VII successor ?

Trusted sources now confirmed that Sony will bring a new camera on market in May. Don’t know yet if this means the camera will be announced in April and ship out in May or if announcement is in May. What matters is that the sources confirmed this is a MAJOR(!!!) camera release. A bit…unexpected ;)

This is no ZV-E1 , FX30 , A6

World’s first review of the new Voigtländer 40mm f/2.0 FE lens at Fred Miranda

Fred Miranda (Click here) tested the new Voigtländer 40mm f/2.0 FE lens and concluded:

Overall, the 40mm f/2 Septon is not about record breaking sharpness or minimal compromises. Its strengths lie in its compact size, lightweight handling, excellent center sharpness, good control of chromatic aberration, and the character in the way it draws. For photographers seeking a compact normal lens for street, travel, or general-purpose use on Sony E or Nikon Z bodies,

Is the Sony ZV-E1 being phased out?

A source just sent me this:

According to the internal store inventory system, the ZV-E1 has a status of “deleted” even though its “eol” date is listed in 2028. In my local distribution network, three units of the kit lens package are available while both body-only versions are unavailable and will not be shipped. It is strongly suspected that an updated ZV-E1 will drop sooner than later.
I’m including a picture I took of the inventory screen

Curiosity: First 17% price drop on the Sony RX1rIII in Switzerland

The Sony RX1rIII got a first 17% price drop at swiss store Digitech . This is the first time ever I found a discount on this controversial camera. The camera is heavily discussed because of two reasons:

  1. The feeling it hasn’t been updated enough (for example it uses same lens and a low resolution EVF only)
  2. The price is crazy high

If we would get the same 17% discount in the USA the Sony RX1rIII would be priced at $4234 instead of

New Sigma patent discloses the designs for the 28mm f/1.2 and 24mm f/1.2 lenses.

We just got the excellent Sigma 35mm f/1.2 II, and it looks like they’re planning to release even more fast wide-angle primes. A newly published patent reveals the optical designs for the:

  • Sigma 24mm f/1.2
  • Sigma 28mm f/1.2

I think both would be very welcome additions, don’t you agree?

Sony Semiconductor Solutions to Release 4K Image Sensor for Security Cameras

IMX908 CMOS image sensor

Sony released a new sensor for security cameras. While this is obviously not meant to be used on any Alpha camera I think it’s interesting to see what kind of new tech they bring!

Press text:
