PM Carney gifted pistol by Turkey’s president at NATO

JEDDAH — Prime Minister Mark Carney was gifted a personalized pistol and ammunition by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the NATO summit.

Erdogan, who hosted this year’s summit in Ankara, gifted every NATO leader a name-engraved firearm.

Global Affairs Canada says the RCMP is having the weapon decommissioned so it no longer fires and that the ammunition was left in Turkey.

The government will look for a home for the gift, potentially a museum.

Motorcyclist critically injured in collision with truck in Brampton

A motorcyclist has been critically injured in a collision with a truck in Brampton.

Peel police say officers were called to North Park Drive and Nasmith Street just after 5:30 p.m. to reports of a crash between a motorcycle and a truck.

The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with critical injuries.

All southbound lanes are closed on Nasmith at North Park while all westbound lanes on North Park are closed from Neptune Court to Newport Street.

Regular service has resumed on the Lakeshore West GO line after a person was struck by a train near Clarkson GO in Mississauga

Peel police say the incident happened near Lorne Park Road and Birchview Drive around 5:15 p.m.

GO Transit said the delays earlier have been resolved and regular service has since resumed.

Man, 28, charged with murder in Scarborough double shooting

A 28-year-old man is facing a murder charge following a double shooting in Scarborough that claimed the life of a 32-year-old man.

Toronto police responded to a shooting at Victoria Park Avenue and Highway 401 around 3:15 p.m. on July 6. When they arrived at the scene, they located the body of a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Levon Byers
