Judges deny request to return Trump’s name to Kennedy Center pending an appeal
A three-judge panel on Wednesday denied a request from the Kennedy Center’s board to keep President Donald Trump’s name on the institution while the board appeals an earlier ruling that dubbed the name change illegal and had it rescinded.
It’s another setback for the board of trustees, of which Trump is chairman, in a saga that began earlier this year when the Kennedy Center became: “The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.”

‘There’s no ventilation’: Peel police say man called 9-1-1 to complain about hotel room
The latest on an ever-growing laundry list of ridiculous reasons to call 9-1-1 comes from Peel Region, where a man recently called the emergency service to complain about a “really, really bad” hotel room.
Peel Regional Police shared audio of the call in an attempt to remind the public that 9-1-1 should be reserved for actual emergencies.

Suspect arrested after repeated violence in Vancouver World Cup zone
VANCOUVER — Police in Vancouver say a man suspected in several violent confrontations in the Granville Street pedestrian zone set up for the FIFA World Cup has been arrested.
Vancouver police say in a post on social media that a woman approached patrolling officers in the zone on Monday night, reporting a man had swung a fist in her direction.
Officers then tried approaching the man, who was seen trying to punch another woman before fleeing police.
The man was arrested after a foot chase and police say he has been charged with assault.

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 600 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets also fell after President Donald Trump said a ceasefire with Iran was over because of Iranian attacks on commercial shipping.
Oil prices also moved higher as Trump said on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, that the U.S., which hit targets in Iran overnight, was preparing for another night of strikes.

U.S. approves ’emergency rescue’ plan to import Marineland’s whales and dolphins
TORONTO — U.S. authorities have approved an “emergency rescue” operation to import Canada’s last captive whales and dolphins, a consortium of marine parks said Wednesday.
The shuttered Niagara Falls, Ont., tourist attraction is up for sale and the park has said it is running out of money to care for its complement of 30 belugas and four dolphins.
Ottawa endorsed last month a plan to move the animals to several facilities in the United States and one in Spain.

York police looking to identify alleged jewelry theft suspect in Newmarket
York Regional Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in an alleged jewelry theft in Newmarket.
The incident took place on June 1 at a jewelry store in the Yonge Street and Davis Drive area.
The suspect entered the store and asked to try on a gold chain. After putting on the chain, the suspect fled the store on foot. He was last seen on Davis Drive.
The suspect is described as a male, five-foot-nine with a medium build, short brown hair
