Kids Help Phone, a service offering free, mental health service over the phone or online to youth across Canada, has had a spike in overnight calls — the most dramatic increase in their more than three-decade history. The reasons are various, but the need is great, putting strain on the service’s volunteer force.

Toronto police are investigating what they believe was a targeted shooting outside a townhouse complex on Danzig Street in Scarborough early Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the complex near Morningside and Lawrence avenues around 3 a.m. for reports of gunshots heard in the area and a vehicle fleeing the scene.

When police arrived, they located evidence of gunfire in the residential area.

Investigators say they believe this was a targeted incident.

No injuries were reported.

Police have not yet released a description of a suspect or suspects or the vehicle

A 21-year-old man from Toronto who is accused of sexually assaulting a victim at gunpoint and recording the alleged crime has been arrested.

In an update shared on Monday, Toronto police said Devon Plooard was taken into custody on Aug. 10, and charged with several offences, including sexual assault, pointing a firearm and voyeurism.

The assault was reported on Aug. 8 in the Gerrard Street East and Coxwell Avenue area and allegedly happened months earlier.

Police allege that Plooard was with the victim in May
