MONTRÉAL — A Quebec zoo says a red kangaroo is doing well after it was captured after several days on the lam on Montreal’s South Shore.
The Granby Zoo says the animal is eating normally and resting up after four days of bouncing around the fields near Boucherville, Que.
Quebec’s Environment Department confirmed that the animal that was reported loose on Friday was finally captured on Tuesday.
The department says its initial investigation suggests the animal was being kept illegally in facilities that did not comply with Quebec regulations.

Luigi Mangione will assert psychiatric defense in murder case in UnitedHealthcare CEO’s killing
NEW YORK (AP) — Luigi Mangione will assert a psychiatric defense at his state murder trial in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson , a judge said Wednesday.
Judge Gregory Carro said Mangione’s lawyers have informed him they will attempt to show that he was suffering from “extreme emotional disturbance at the time of the occurrence.”
By asserting a psychiatric defense, Mangione would effectively be admitting that he killed Thompson but did so because of mitigating circumstances.

Man wanted for alleged robbery, aggravated assault in Riverside area
Toronto police are looking for a man who allegedly assaulted and robbed a person in the Riverside area last week.
Police were called to the area of Dundas Street East and Broadview Avenue for a robbery on June 12 shortly before 5 p.m.
The victim was reportedly unloading their vehicle when a man approached them and assaulted the victim unprovoked and then stole the victim’s property. The man then fled the area.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

CBC’s news should be assessed by outside experts for fairness, senators say in report
OTTAWA — A Senate committee report says CBC-Radio-Canada’s news and current affairs content should be periodically analyzed by outside experts “in order to assess its fairness and balance.”
The Senate’s transport and communications committee released a report called “Local News Matters” today after hearing from more than 60 witnesses.
It calls for local programming to be added to CBC/Radio-Canada’s mandate and for the government to provide stable, multi-year funding for local programming.
