Storm risk low for World Cup match at Toronto Stadium Wednesday

The weather is looking dry for the next Toronto Stadium World Cup match coming up this Wednesday evening.

While the first half of the day and overnight could see pop-up thunderstorms, the storm risk is expected to diminish just in time for 7 p.m. kick-off.

The forecasts show Toronto will see a mix of sun and cloud with light southwest winds, gusts from 10 to 30 kilometres an hour and temperatures hovering around 20 C.

Cineplex raises price of CineClub memberships for first time

TORONTO — Cineplex Inc. says it’s raising the prices of its CineClub memberships for the first time since launching the program.

Starting July 15, the cinema chain will start charging customers $10.99 per month for monthly memberships and $120.89 per year for annual memberships.

Since it launched CineClub in 2021, it has been charging members $9.99 per month or $109.89 per year, respectively.

New First Nations water bill drops mention of ‘right’ to clean water access

OTTAWA — A new First Nations clean water bill set to be introduced by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government removes a provision in a previous bill that would have recognized First Nations have a human right to clean drinking water.

The Canadian Press has obtained a draft of the bill labelled “for consultation until June 11, 2026.” It’s not clear if any changes were made since the consultation period ended.

Toronto police vehicle involved in collision while responding to stolen car investigation

A Toronto police vehicle has been involved in a collision in North York while responding to a stolen car investigation.

Officers were called to the area of Sheppard Avenue West and Jane Street just before noon on Monday to reports of a vehicle theft.

Police located the vehicle and initiated a stop. A scout car was then involved in a collision.

Lane closures are in effect in the Keele Street and Wilson Avenue area and delays are expected.

Drivers are still confused about upcoming auto insurance changes in Ontario

On July 1, big changes for millions of auto insurance policy holders across Ontario take effect, but a lot of drivers still have questions about how it impacts them.

“I have not heard anything about this,” said Megan Sousa, who has an auto insurance policy.

Sousa was unaware certain benefits for accident victims, whether the driver’s fault or not, which were mandatory under Ontario insurance laws, will soon become optional for existing policy holders.

Man and woman facing attempted murder charges in connection to Scugog stabbing

A man and a woman have been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Scugog back in May.

Durham police were called to a park in the area of Water Street and Mary Street on May 13 around 9:15 p.m. for reports of an armed person.

Once on the scene, officers found a man suffering from stab wounds. He was taken to a trauma centre in serious, life-threatening condition. His condition was later upgraded to stable.
