Toronto area could get two high-speed rail stations — not just one — says Alto CEO

MONTREAL — The head of the country’s high-speed rail project says the Greater Toronto Area could be home to two stations rather than one as previously planned.

In an interview with The Canadian Press, Alto chief executive Martin Imbleau said the GTA “will probably require a secondary station,” though no final decision has been made.

He says the station would likely sit in a nearby suburb, attracting more passengers from the surrounding region and allowing access to the line while construction on the costlier final leg into downtown Toronto


David Allan Coe, who wrote ‘Take This Job and Shove It’ and other country hits, dies at 86

David Allan Coe, the country singer-songwriter who wrote the working class anthem “Take This Job and Shove It″ and had hits with “You Never Even Called Me By My Name” and “The Ride” among others, has died. He was 86.

Coe’s wife, Kimberly Hastings Coe, confirmed his death to Rolling Stone on Wednesday.

She described him as one of the best singers and songwriters of our time.

Peel police are asking for help from the public in a sudden death investigation in Brampton.

Investigators say they were called to the area of North Park Drive and Dixie Road around 8:15 a.m. on April 16 for reports of an injured and unconscious man.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.

OTTAWA — Canada has been selected to host a multinational bank to provide financing for defence projects by NATO members and allies.

Black clouds of midges swarming Toronto’s waterways

Clouds of tiny flying black insects, known as midges, are causing frustration around Toronto’s waterways.

A video captured by Pat O’Rourke shows him covered head to toe in midges as he biked over the bridge by Roncesvalles and Queensway.
