Pimicikamak Cree Nation on lockdown after gunshots fired, 1 person dead
A shooter is still on the loose and a northern Manitoba community remains in lockdown Saturday, Pimicikamak Cree Nation Chief David Monias said in a social media post.
RCMP’s major crimes unit is investigating a suspicious death in the First Nation community, located about 530 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
Cross Lake RCMP said it were notified around 9:30 p.m. Friday, by the local First Nation Safety Officers about a seriously injured individual.

Man charged with mischief in suspected hate-motivated act against East York church
A 56-year-old man is facing charges after an East York church was targeted by violence three times in just over a week.
Toronto police say on July 24, they were called to a church in the area of Cosburn Avenue and Pape Avenue after a rock was thrown through the window.
Investigators say they were called to the same location a week later for a similar incident.

Toronto under special weather statement for possible heavy rainfall
A special weather statement has been issued for Toronto and the GTA while rainfall warnings are in effect for Cottage Country.
Environment Canada says the rainfall is expected to start late Saturday and carry on into Sunday.

Hamilton police search for man in fatal assault
Investigators in Hamilton are searching for a man in connection with an assault that resulted in another man’s death.
Police say they were called to the Wentworth Street North and Bristol Street area just before 11:30 a.m. on May 31 for reports someone had been assaulted.
When they arrived, they found a man sufferin gfrom a serious head injury. He was transported to the hospital, where he remained until his death on July 30.

A Toronto man is facing several charges in connection with a hate-motivated harassment investigation in the downtown core.
According to police, 45-year-old Reginald Cuff approached a victim on July 19 near Bond and Shuter Streets, and allegedly repeated anti-Muslim comments during an unprovoked interaction.
