Alphabet's Sidewalk Labs abandons its Toronto smart neighborhood project

In context: Last year, we reported on Alphabet subsidiary Sidewalk Labs' ambitious plan to develop a full smart neighborhood in the city of Toronto. Early testing for this neighborhood, which would have been called "Quayside," was expected to begin this year, but due to the major disruptions caused by Covid-19, the Quayside project is being shut down.

Forward-looking: Mediatek wants back in the high-end mobile SoC game, and its latest weapon is the Dimensity 1000+. The new chipset supports sub-6 Ghz 5G and is the first that will allow phones to display 4K 60 fps YouTube videos without turning your phone into a hot plate, or so they say.

Tile's partnership with Intel will put tracking hardware in notebooks

The big picture: Tile on Thursday announced a partnership with Intel to help bring its tracking technology to original equipment manufacturers. Considering that nearly half of those questioned said the most common place they lose items is in their own home, well, it just seems like a natural fit at just the right time.
