SiFive Demonstrates RISC-V Rack Mount HPC Cluster

As one of the main driving forces behind the RISC-V architecture, SiFive tends to introduce and showcase RISC-V solutions not available from anyone else in the industry. This week the company demonstrated the industry's first RISC-V cluster that could be used for high-performance computing.

The four-way cluster built by AB Open is based on four SiFive HiFive Unmatched developer motherboards each featuring a Freedom U740 system-on-chip for compute tasks as well

AMD Might Use Samsung's 4nm Node for Chromebook CPUs: J.P. Morgan

AMD has relied on chipmakers GlobalFoundries and TSMC for well over a decade now. Still, if a new report from J.P. Morgan turns out to be correct, the company might build entry-level 4nm processors for Chromebooks at Samsung Foundry. The firm also speculates that AMD could also use Samsung foundry for future GPUs.

"Our research indicates that AMD is likely to outsource a Chromebook CPU to Samsung on its 4nm (likely mass production in late 2022)

Intel to Scrap 14nm Comet Lake Mobile Processors

Intel has announced plans to discontinue its higher-end mobile 10th-Gen Core 'Comet Lake' processors. The CPUs will be available for order until 2022, but Intel is obviously scrapping the production of some higher-end chips using its 14nm fabrication technology. That makes sense because Intel now has two families of 10nm processors on the market.

Since Intel was late with its 10nm CPUs and had to address performance-demanding users with

Samsung Mobile not Confident Chip Supply Issues will be Resolved in 2022

Unlike Intel and Qualcomm, Samsung seems to be far more pessimistic about the current chip supply issues, as the company isn't expecting the chip shortage to be resolved next year. Admittedly this information comes via a meeting of its mobile divisions top brass, but considering that the mobile division is using a significant amount of various chips for its products, it would seem that the information is reliable.

The two biggest shortages for Samsung's mobile division will continue to be application processors (also known as SoCs) and radio

Huawei's Latest Laptop Pairs DDR5 RAM with New 5nm SoC

Things have been relatively quiet on the laptop front, since AMD Ryzen 5000 and Intel Tiger Lake-H -based systems launched earlier this year. Laptops using Alder Lake-P processors are expected to debut early next year, and apparently, Huawei is looking to jump into the mix as well with its new Dyna Cloud L420, according to My Drivers .

The Dyna Cloud L420 will reportedly use a brand-new in-house Arm SoC
