Post Photos/Images to Your Drupal Site from the iPad

Now that I have effectively replaced my laptop with an iPad, I need an easy/quick way to post a photo or two from my iPad to my blog. I use Photogene as a simple Photoshop replacement on the iPad (it actually works pretty well, for being limited to 256 MB of RAM and a 1024x768 display).

I originally tried using an FTP program to transfer the file to my website, into a drop box folder I created, but FTPWrite , one

New MobileMe Mail Features - Server-Side Rules!!

The day has finally come for cloud-based rules in the MobileMe world :-)

I have been an iTools -> .Mac -> MobileMe user through the whole ride (starting the day after iTools was open for new users), and the service has had me wanting to leave for some time... and I still might in a year or two. However, server-side mail sorting rules (along with other new features of the online webmail client ) are a huge boon for me:

A Good Reason to Not Use Flash

Flash resource hogging bytes

Need I say more? This is from a cookie-cutter Wordpress site with some flash mixed in with a template. The flash was only added to make a little transitional animation for the navigation bar.

HTML5, and heck, even CSS3 or simple JavaScript (using jQuery) would enable the above-mentioned site to quickly and easily enable the same animations and transitions, using only a few hundred bytes of code. Seeing that jQuery was already loaded on the site, it makes a heck of a lot more

Video from Newport Aquarium (Shot with my D90, 720p)

The video below is a montage of clips from Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY. I finally had some time to compile the clips, and back them with some ethereal music I had sitting on my drive. The video includes some jellyfish (even a tiny one that lights up its back somehow), turtles, coral reef plants, and a few other fish, big and small. All clips were recorded with my Nikon D90 at 720p, with a 50mm f/1.4

Should I Sleep or Shut Down my Mac?

This topic is oft debated in many Mac forums, and does not really have a concrete answer; a lot depends on what you do with your Mac, and what Mac you use. Before deciding whether to shut down or sleep your Mac, you should know (a) what happens in each process, and (b) the pros and cons to both practices.

Sleeping

Many computer users (myself included) almost NEVER shut down their computers. There are many positive benefits to this (especially if you're a

Secure Your Files: Create an Encrypted Disk on Which to Store Private Files

Secure Disk Image
The popularity of 'cloud file management' software such as Dropbox and SugarSync has made me re-evaluate my security practices for files on my computers; in the past, I have not put any of my private files (for instance, files with sensitive passwords, or scans of important legal documents) on my shared folders (Dropbox, iDisk, etc.), but I finally came up with an ideal solution to storing and syncing these files. It's like using FileVault, but without the extra overhead of
