Lebanese man jailed in Germany for Hezbollah membership

A court in Germany has sentenced a Lebanese man to six-and-a-half years in prison for being a member of Hezbollah, the Shia militia group, whose military wing is proscribed as a terrorist organisation by the EU.

The 35-year-old man, named only as Fadel Z in line with German privacy rules, was also found guilty of aiding and abetting attempted murder, and numerous violations of European Union embargo regulations.

A former colonel in the Syrian Air Force intelligence department has appeared before a London court charged with crimes against humanity.

Salem Michel Al-Salem, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court via video link and has been named publicly for the first time after a request from his team to prevent this was rejected.

Signal issues scam warning to users after hackers target officials

Signal has warned users to look out for signs of scams, after Dutch intelligence said high-profile users of the secure messaging app were being targeted by hackers.

Dutch cybersecurity agencies said on Monday a Russia-backed campaign had targeted individual users of Signal, as well as WhatsApp.

They said this had seen hackers pose as support staff to try and obtain details that would give them access to accounts or hijack linked devices - with Dutch officials, military staff and civil servants among those targeted in

Canadian police say they are investigating reports that a gun was fired at the US consulate in Toronto.

"Evidence of a firearm discharge has been located," Toronto Police Operations posted on X on Tuesday, adding that the report of gunfire was received just before 05:30 local time (09:30 GMT).

No injuries have been reported, and no suspect has been identified, the police statement adds.

Volkswagen to cut 50,000 jobs as profits drop

Volkswagen has said it will cut 50,000 jobs in Germany by 2030 as its profits dropped to their lowest level since 2016.

Chief executive Oliver Blume told shareholders that the cuts would take place in Germany and fall across the entire group, including Audi and Porsche.

The family of a girl critically injured during a mass shooting at a Canadian school is , claiming it had been aware the suspect had been planning an attack but failed to alert the authorities.

Uber rolls out women-only option in the US

Uber has launched a feature allowing female drivers and passengers across the US to request trips with other women on the ride-hailing app.
