Wildflowers blanket Death Valley in best display since 2016

Death Valley in California - the hottest place on Earth and the driest place in North America - is currently carpeted in wildflowers in what is shaping up to be the best bloom in a decade.

The National Park Service (NPS) officially categorised this as an above-average bloom year on 22 February, with low-elevation flowers blooming throughout the park.

It is the best event the site has seen since 2016, with swathes of the desert transformed and covered in golden and violet flora.

Alexander Butterfield, the former White House aide who revealed the existence of damaging recordings related to the break-in at the Watergate hotel in Washington DC, died aged 99 on Monday, according to his wife.

During questioning by a Senate committee in 1973, Butterfield made the bombshell disclosure that then-President Richard Nixon had a recording system in the Oval Office.

Madagascar's military ruler Col Michael Randrianirina has dissolved the government unexpectedly, dismissing the prime minister and the entire cabinet, according to a statement from his spokesperson.

"The government has ceased its functions" it said, adding that Randrianirina will appoint a new prime minister "in line with the provisions stipulated by the constitution".

No reason was given for the move.

China exports surge in first two months of the year despite Trump tariffs

China's exports surged in the first two months of this year despite trade tensions with the US.

Official figures show exports jumped by more than 20% in January and February, which is almost three times the rate predicted by economists. It puts the country on track to top the record-breaking annual trade surplus it saw in 2025.

The announcement comes as US President Donald Trump is expected to visit China in early April to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

Two famous brothers who worked as real estate brokers have been convicted of drugging and raping dozens of women over the course of decades.

Tal Alexander, 39, and Oren Alexander, 38, rose to prominence from their sales of luxury real-estate properties in New York and Miami. Along with a third brother Alon, 38, a jury found all three guilty of sex trafficking by a jury in New York.
