Former Toronto city councillor and TTC chair Howard Moscoe has died at the age of 86. A cause of death was not immediately available.

Moscoe started as a high-school art teacher and was president of the North York Teachers’ Federation and a governor of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation before unsuccessfully attempting to win a seat at Queen’s Park for the Ontario NDP in 1975. He came up short in two other subsequent provincial campaigns in 1977 and 1985.

Iran’s soccer federation says team’s World Cup base camp has been moved to Mexico from the US

PHOENIX (AP) — The president of the governing body of Iranian soccer said Saturday the nation’s training base has been moved to Mexico from the United States after getting approval from FIFA.

Mehdi Taj, president of the Iran Football Federation, announced the decision Saturday in a statement issued by the federation’s media relations official. FIFA has not confirmed the move.

Canadians from Gaza flotilla to return to Canada after detainment by Israeli forces

Some of the Canadians who were part of a flotilla attempting to break Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza are set to return to Canada this weekend.

The Canadians were detained by Israeli forces last week and reportedly abused in custody before being sent to Turkey.

Woman found dead in Toronto parking garage, police say

A woman was found dead inside a Toronto parking garage early Saturday morning.

Police were flagged down in the area of Dundas Street and Seaton Street, near Moss Park, just before 9:30 a.m. for a “medical complaint.”

Upon inspection, officers discovered the body of a dead woman inside a nearby parking garage.

Police say the case is classified as “suspicious” and investigation is ongoing.
