OPP officer killed in Cobourg motorcycle crash
An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer has died after a motorcycle crashed on Highway 401 in Cobourg Monday evening.
Provincial police say they called to the highway near Burnham Street North to a single vehicle crash around 5:30 p.m.
The OPP officer was pronounced dead at the scene. OPP say the officer was on duty when they died.
The identity of the officer is being withheld while their next of kin is notified. The circumstances around the crash are still under investigation.

Royal Canadian Mint reviewing allegations about gold from tainted Colombian mines
OTTAWA — The Royal Canadian Mint says it has initiated a full review in response to allegations some of its gold comes from a region of Colombia where drug cartels control mines.
Mint spokesperson Deneen Perrin says as soon as the mint learned of the allegations raised by the New York Times newspaper, it “immediately and fully” suspended the refining of any material from the supply chain in question.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada judge sentenced “Dances With Wolves” actor Nathan Chasing Horse on Monday to life in prison for sexually assaulting Indigenous women and girls.
A jury had previously convicted him of 13 charges, mostly related to sexual assault of three women.

Rogers says it is offering voluntary buyouts in response to cost pressures
TORONTO — Rogers Communications Inc. says it is offering buyouts to some of its employees.
Spokesperson Zac Carreiro says in a statement that the company is taking steps to adjust its cost structure in order to reflect the business realities of the current environment.
He says some teams have chosen to offer voluntary departure and retirement programs.
Typically, only a small number of employees offered a voluntary buyout will actually accept it.

Toronto police say lithium-ion batteries were involved in a fire that broke out at a high-rise building in Cabbagetown on Monday.
Emergency services were called to the area of Wellesley and Parliament streets just before 2:30 p.m.

Woman charged with stabbing another woman in Pickering
A woman has been charged with allegedly stabbing another woman in Pickering last Friday morning.
Durham police were called to the area of Kingston and Liverpool roads at 7:15 a.m.
It’s alleged two women got into an altercation. One of them allegedly took out a knife and stabbed the other.
The suspect attempted to flee the area but was located by police and taken into custody.
The victim was taken to a trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
