DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates announced Tuesday that it will leave the oil cartel OPEC and its wider OPEC+ group effective May 1, a move rumored for some time as the Emirates chafed under production restrictions and had increasingly frosty relations with neighboring Saudi Arabia.
The UAE had been a longtime member of OPEC, first through its emirate of Abu Dhabi in 1967 and later when the UAE became its own country in 1971.

‘Targeted’ Richmond Hill home invasion leaves 1 injured as police search for suspects
York Regional Police (YRP) are investigating a targeted home invasion in Richmond Hill early Tuesday that left one person with minor injuries and sent multiple suspects fleeing the neighbourhood in a waiting vehicle.
Officers were called around 4:30 a.m. to the area of Red Oak Drive and Hyde Park Drive, where occupants reported that intruders had forced their way into the home. By the time police arrived, the suspects had already left the area.

Tow truck torched in Brampton driveway as police probe possible link to recent arsons
A tow truck was deliberately set on fire in the driveway of a Brampton home early Tuesday, Peel Regional Police (PRP) say.
Emergency crews were called to 18 Ascot Avenue, located near Avondale Boulevard and Balmoral Drive, around 3 a.m., where a tow truck was found burning outside a residence.
Peel Regional Police confirm the Office of the Fire Marshal has taken over the case after the blaze was officially deemed an arson.

2-alarm fire erupts outside Rebel nightclub at Polson Pier
Toronto firefighters knocked down a two‑alarm blaze early Tuesday after flames broke out along the exterior of Rebel nightclub at Polson Pier.
The fire was reported just after 5 a.m., and Toronto Fire Services confirmed that flames were confined to the exterior of the building and did not extend into the club’s interior.
When crews arrived, no one was found inside or around the structure, and there were no reports of injuries.
